Victorian Expansion
1850-1914

The Victorian era, named after Queen Victoria, was marked by the British Empire's expansion and cultural and social changes, such as strict social codes and the rise of a wealthy middle class. The American Civil War occurred during this period and affected the economy. Fashion became a symbol of social status at this time of period.
